Though a different Hebrew word is used for
avenge and
avenger of
blood there might be a thematic link.

of the 2nd cycle

Hosea 1 - Listen
1
The word
of the LORD
that came unto Hosea,
the son
of Beeri,
in the days
of Uzziah,
Jotham,
Ahaz,
and Hezekiah,
kings
of Judah,
and in the days
of Jeroboam
the son
of Joash,
king
of Israel.
2
The beginning
of the word
of the LORD
by Hosea.
And the LORD
said
to Hosea,
Go,
take
unto thee a wife
of whoredoms
and children
of whoredoms:
for the land
hath committed great
whoredom,
departing from
the LORD.
3
So he went
and took
Gomer
the daughter
of Diblaim;
which conceived,
and bare
him a son.
4
And the LORD
said
unto him, Call
his name
Jezreel;
for yet a little
while, and I will avenge
the blood
of Jezreel
upon the house
of Jehu,
and will cause to cease
the kingdom
of the house
of Israel.
5
And it shall come to pass at that day,
that I will break
the bow
of Israel
in the valley
of Jezreel.
6
And she conceived again,
and bare
a daughter.
And God said
unto him, Call
her name
Loruhamah:
for I will no more
have mercy
upon the house
of Israel;
but I will utterly
take them away.
7
But I will have mercy
upon the house
of Judah,
and will save
them by the LORD
their God,
and will not save
them by bow,
nor by sword,
nor by battle,
by horses,
nor by horsemen.
8
Now when she had weaned
Loruhamah,
she conceived,
and bare
a son.
9
Then said
God, Call
his name
Loammi:
for ye are not my people,
10
Yet the number
of the children
of Israel
shall be as the sand
of the sea,
which cannot be measured
nor numbered;
and it shall come to pass, that in the place
where it was said
unto them, Ye are not my people,
there it shall be said
unto them, Ye are the sons
of the living
God.
11
Then shall the children
of Judah
and the children
of Israel
be gathered
together,
and appoint
themselves one
head,
and they shall come up
out of the land:
for great
shall be the day
of Jezreel.

Joshua 20 - Listen
1
The LORD
also spake
unto Joshua,
saying,
2
Speak
to the children
of Israel,
saying,
Appoint out
for you cities
of refuge,
whereof I spake
unto you by the hand
of Moses:
3
That the slayer
that killeth
any person
unawares
and unwittingly
may flee
thither: and they shall be your refuge
from the avenger
of blood.
4
And when he that doth flee
unto one
of those cities
shall stand
at the entering
of the gate
of the city,
and shall declare
his cause
in the ears
of the elders
of that city,
they shall take
him into the city
unto them, and give
him a place,
that he may dwell
5
And if the avenger
of blood
pursue
after
him, then they shall not deliver
the slayer
up into his hand;
because he smote
his neighbour
unwittingly,
*
and hated
him not beforetime.
*
6
And he shall dwell
in that city,
until he stand
before
the congregation
for judgment,
and until the death
of the high
priest
that
shall be in those days:
then shall the slayer
return,
and come
unto his own city,
and unto his own house,
unto the city
from whence he fled.
7
And they appointed
Kedesh
in Galilee
in mount
Naphtali,
and Shechem
in mount
Ephraim,
which is Hebron,
in the mountain
of Judah.
8
And on the other side
Jordan
by Jericho
eastward,
they assigned
Bezer
in the wilderness
upon the plain
out of the tribe
of Reuben,
and Ramoth
in Gilead
out of the tribe
of Gad,
and Golan
in Bashan
out of the tribe
of Manasseh.
9
These were the cities
appointed
for all the children
of Israel,
and for the stranger
that sojourneth
among
them, that whosoever killeth
any person
at unawares
might flee
thither, and not die
by the hand
of the avenger
of blood,
until he stood
before
the congregation.
