1Samuel 16 - Listen
1
And the LORD
said
unto Samuel,
How long wilt thou mourn
for Saul,
seeing I have rejected
him from reigning
over Israel?
fill
thine horn
with oil,
and go,
I will send
thee to Jesse
the Bethlehemite:
for I have provided
me a king
among his sons.
2
And Samuel
said,
How can I go?
if Saul
hear
it, he will kill
me. And the LORD
said,
Take
an heifer
*
with thee,
and say,
I am come
to sacrifice
to the LORD.
3
And call
Jesse
to the sacrifice,
and I will shew
thee what thou shalt do:
and thou shalt anoint
unto me him whom I name
4
And Samuel
did
that which the LORD
spake,
and came
to Bethlehem.
And the elders
of the town
trembled
at his coming,
and said,
Comest
thou peaceably?
5
And he said,
Peaceably:
I am come
to sacrifice
unto the LORD:
sanctify
yourselves, and come
with me to the sacrifice.
And he sanctified
Jesse
and his sons,
and called
them to the sacrifice.
6
And it came to pass, when they were come,
that he looked
on Eliab,
and said,
Surely the LORD'S
anointed
7
But the LORD
said
unto Samuel,
Look
not on his countenance,
or on the height
of his stature;
because I have refused
him: for the LORD seeth not as man
seeth;
for man
looketh
on the outward appearance,
but the LORD
looketh
on the heart.
8
Then Jesse
called
Abinadab,
and made him pass
before
Samuel.
And he said,
Neither hath the LORD
chosen
9
Then Jesse
made Shammah
to pass by.
And he said,
Neither hath the LORD
chosen
10
Again, Jesse
made seven
of his sons
to pass
before
Samuel.
And Samuel
said
unto Jesse,
The LORD
hath not chosen
11
And Samuel
said
unto Jesse,
Are here all
thy children?
And he said,
There remaineth
yet the youngest,
and, behold, he keepeth
the sheep.
And Samuel
said
unto Jesse,
Send
and fetch
him: for we will not sit down
till he come
hither.
12
And he sent,
and brought him in.
Now he was ruddy,
and withal
of a beautiful
countenance,
and goodly
to look to.
And the LORD
said,
Arise,
anoint
13
Then Samuel
took
the horn
of oil,
and anointed
him in the midst
of his brethren:
and the Spirit
of the LORD
came
upon David
from that day
forward.
So Samuel
rose up,
and went
to Ramah.
14
But the Spirit
of the LORD
departed
from Saul,
and an evil
spirit
from the LORD
troubled
15
And Saul's
servants
said
unto him, Behold now, an evil
spirit
from God
troubleth
16
Let our lord
now command
thy servants,
which are before
thee, to seek out
a man,
who is a cunning
player
on an harp:
and it shall come to pass, when the evil
spirit
from God
is upon thee, that he shall play
with his hand,
and thou shalt be well.
17
And Saul
said
unto his servants,
Provide
me now a man
that can play
well,
and bring
18
Then answered
one
of the servants,
and said,
Behold, I have seen
a son
of Jesse
the Bethlehemite,
that is cunning
in playing,
and a mighty
valiant man,
and a man
of war,
and prudent
in matters,
and a comely
person,
and the LORD
19
Wherefore Saul
sent
messengers
unto Jesse,
and said,
Send
me David
thy son,
which is with the sheep.
20
And Jesse
took
an ass
laden with bread,
and a bottle
of wine,
and a
kid,
*
and sent
them by
David
his son
unto Saul.
21
And David
came
to Saul,
and stood
before
him: and he loved
him greatly;
and he became his armourbearer.
*
22
And Saul
sent
to Jesse,
saying,
Let David,
I pray thee, stand
before
me; for he hath found
favour
in my sight.
23
And it came to pass, when the evil spirit
from God
was upon Saul,
that David
took
an harp,
and played
with his hand:
so Saul
was refreshed,
and was well,
and the evil
spirit
departed

Zechariah 11 - Listen
1
Open
thy doors,
O Lebanon,
that the fire
may devour
thy cedars.
2
Howl,
fir tree;
for the cedar
is fallen;
because the mighty
are spoiled:
howl,
O ye oaks
of Bashan;
for the forest
of the vintage
*
is come down.
3
There is a voice
of the howling
of the shepherds;
for their glory
is spoiled:
a voice
of the roaring
of young lions;
for the pride
of Jordan
is spoiled.
4
Thus saith
the LORD
my God;
Feed
the flock
of the slaughter;
5
Whose possessors
slay
them, and hold themselves not guilty:
and they that sell
them say,
Blessed
be the LORD;
for I am rich:
and their own shepherds
pity
6
For I will no more pity
the inhabitants
of the land,
saith
the LORD:
but, lo, I will deliver
the men
every one
into his neighbour's
hand,
and into the hand
of his king:
and they shall smite
the land,
and out of their hand
I will not deliver
7
And I will feed
the flock
of slaughter,
even you,
O poor
of the flock.
And I took
unto me two
staves;
the one
I called
Beauty,
and the other
I called
Bands;
and I fed
the flock.
8
Three
shepherds
also I cut off
in one
month;
and my soul
lothed
them, and their soul
also abhorred
9
Then said
I, I will not feed
you: that that dieth,
let it die;
and that that is to be cut off,
let it be cut off;
and let the rest
eat
every one
the flesh
of another.
10
And I took
my staff,
even Beauty,
and cut it asunder,
that I might break
my covenant
which I had made
with all the people.
11
And it was broken
in that day:
and so the poor
of the flock
that waited
upon me knew
that it was the word
of the LORD.
12
And I said
unto them, If ye think
good,
give
me my price;
and if not, forbear.
So they weighed
for my price
thirty
pieces of silver.
13
And the LORD
said
unto me, Cast
it unto the potter:
a goodly
price
that I was prised at
of them. And I took
the thirty
pieces of silver,
and cast
them to the potter
in the house
of the LORD.
14
Then I cut asunder
mine other
staff,
even Bands,
that I might break
the brotherhood
between Judah
and Israel.
15
And the LORD
said
unto me, Take
unto thee yet the instruments
of a foolish
shepherd.
16
For, lo, I will raise up
a shepherd
in the land,
which shall not visit
those that be cut off,
neither shall seek
the young one,
nor heal
that that is broken,
nor feed
that that standeth
still: but he shall eat
the flesh
of the fat,
and tear
*
their claws
in pieces.
17
Woe
to the idol
shepherd
that leaveth
the flock!
the sword
shall be upon his arm,
and upon his right
eye:
his arm
shall be clean
dried up,
and his right
eye
shall be utterly
darkened. |
