2Kings 8 and the 8th book of the 2nd cycle Amos have rip up their women with child in common except that in 2Kings 8 it was the Syrians that did this whereas in Amos 1 it was the Ammonites. The Ammonites did this against the women of Gilead.

13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.

15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.

28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.

When Elisha came to Damascus Benhadad called Hazael to enquire of the LORD. In Amos 5 it mentions:

Seek ye me, and ye shall live;

Seek the LORD, and ye shall live;

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live.

God heals Benhadad but it is Hazael that kills his master so he can reign:
Enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?

Hazael was used as an instrument of cruelty by God against rebellious Joseph/Israel by setting places on fire. Amos prophesied about another instance where this time the Assyrians were used as an instrument of cruelty against Joseph/Israel by setting places on fire.

1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.

5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.

To my understanding, since Elisha mean God's salvation, and he went to Damascus, it means that God's salvation went to Damascus healing Benhadad the king of Syria from his sickness. But Hazael killed him.

In 2Kings 8:16-24 the story shifts from the king of Israel to the king of Judah. Joram and Jehoram are the same but spelt differently to differentiate between the king of Israel and the king of Judah. However when the story shifted from Israel to Judah, Jehoram the king of Judah becomes Joram the king of Judah.

It was Joram the king of Judah who went after the Edomites who revolted from under him. Therefore the Edomites fled from him.

However in Amos 5 God warns Israel/Joseph that they will flee from their future threat, the Assyrians.

David's ancestors were mentioned in the 8th book Ruth. David was the 8th son of Jesse. His name although not unique, does appear in 2Kings 8 and the 8th book of the 2nd cycle Amos as a musician. But sickness was common between the 8th book of the 1st cycle Ruth that Mahlon is related to sickness and the 8th letter Chet:

Elimelech was Naomi's husband which means God is king. And Mahlon was their son which means sick.
So there is a connection to both the king of Syria being sick and Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel. So Benhadad was killed and succeeded by Hazael and Joram was killed by Jehu the son of Nimshi as they were both anointed by God to be king.

Setting on fire is a common term found on the 8th Spoke as well as calling for a famine as shown in the next chapter.

One thing in common between 2Kings 8 and Amos 7 is Amos prophesied against Amaziah the idolatrous priest of Bethel that his daughters will die by the sword. And this was what happened to Athaliah who was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel whose father was King Ethbaal of the Sidonians, the name showing that he was dedicated and worshipped Baal. And Athaliah was commanded to be executed by Jehoidada the highpriest of the LORD.

Both 2Kings 8 and Amos 7 mention someone leaving home to live elsewhere. Israel wasn't Amos' home. He was from Judah, but went to gather figs, as I understand. But Amaziah told him to go prophesy to Judah instead. Whereas the woman whom Elisha raised her son was told by Elisha to leave because God will bring a famine, as Elisha went to Damascus. In Amos 8 however, because of Amaziah the priest's words against Amos to leave and his warning to the king Jeroboam, because Amos prophesied against the house of Jeroboam in Amos 7, God brought a famine of his word.

In both 2Kings 8 and Amos 8 there is a call for famine in the land. Could it be that the famine in 2Kings 8 was not only a famine of bread but of the word of God as well? Because in 2Kings 9 Elisha sent a servant to anoint Jehu to be king in the place of Jehoram the king of Israel. The same thing happened when Zachariah the son of Jeroboam was killed by Shallum.

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

Amos 9 - Listen 1 I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered. 2 Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: 3 And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them: 4 And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good. 5 And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. 6 It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name. 7 Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? 8 Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD. 9 For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. 10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us. 11 In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: 12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this. 13 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. 14 And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 15 And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
