The Seven Churches of Asia Minor
(Go back to main Menu)
Studies have been made that the seven churches of Asia Minor have proven to represent seven church ages or periods. It doesn’t mean that the other categories don’t exist, but the church that is dominant is represented. For example the first century had mostly churches which had a remarkable love towards God, like the church in Ephesus, as described in Acts 19. But that doesn’t mean there were no churches who have suffered persecution or have been indifferent. But rather the mentality and character of the church of Ephesus has been dominant in the first century and the first church age.
The church in Smyrna
The 6th church resembles the 6th Book Joshua who made an alliance with the Gibeonites, who were not Jews but they came before him on their knees in Joshua 9. Notice that there are 2 churches where the Synagogue of Satan (synagogue means assembly in Greek) was mentioned. In Smyrna the 2nd church, under persecution by them, and Philadelphia where the Synagogue of Satan is in submission to the missionary Church.
The 2nd church Smyrna relates to the 2nd Book Exodus where the Pharaohs persecuted the Israelites until the Israelites crossed the Red Sea.
And the 6th Church Philadelphia relates to the 6th Book Joshua, where in chapter 9 the Gibeonites lied to them to have come from a distant land. They made the Israelites swear that they wouldn't harm them. And the Israelites, not seeking God's will swore in God's name. But they regretted later, and they had to protect them from the surrounding nations.
The 6th Church period must be around the time of the expedition and colonization including the time when the Americans declared themselves independent. Philadelphia, the city where the founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence was named after the city in Asia Minor where the church in Revelation 3 existed.
The second Church Age was when the Caesars began to declare themselves as gods. Though Nero died in 65 AD (having blamed Christians for the burning of Rome) the persecutions took momentum after Emperor Domitian until Constantine in 325 AD.

Revelation 2 - Listen 8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and [I know] the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but [are] the synagogue of Satan. 10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast [some] of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. 11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. | Persecution of the Israelites in Egypt Exodus 1 - Listen 22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive. |
